Burial Assistance

Provides assistance in paying for the cost of burial on behalf of the deceased. Determination of need will be accomplished on a case-by-case basis using the BIA standard payment of not to exceed $2,500.00.

To be eligible, the deceased must:

• Have been enrolled or eligible to be enrolled in an Alaska Native/American Indian Tribe.
• Been living in the Aleutian/Pribilof Islands Region for at least 6 consecutive months.

Assistance is available only in absence of other resources.

Individuals applying for burial assistance on behalf of an eligible deceased individual:

• Must complete the APIA Burial Assistance application process.
• Contact APIA before signing any contract with a funeral home, to prevent disqualifying for assistance.
