Foster Care
A/PIA’s ICWA Program has a contract with the State of Alaska to license foster homes in the Anchorage and Aleutian/Pribilof Islands Region. Once the licensing process is completed and all approvals come back, the home is given a license by the State of Alaska to provide foster care for children. The licensing of a foster home is not as complicated or intimidating as some think. We do our best to make it easy to understand and are very open to answering any questions regarding foster care.
It is important that children from our region are able to remain in their home communities if they need foster care. Without Native foster homes in villages, our ICWA children are often moved to Anchorage for foster care, taking them away from everything they’ve ever known. If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, or just have questions about the foster parent licensing process, please call your local APIA Family Programs Children’s Service Worker, or the Anchorage office at 1-800-478-2742.
