CARES Act
The Qagan Tayagungin Tribe received $1,103,511.14 from the Department of the Treasury under section 601(a) of the Social Security Act, as added by section 5001 of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, CARES Act. These one-time, non-recurring funds were authorized to provide payment to cover costs that:
- are necessary expenditures incurred due to the public health emergency with respect to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
- were not accounted for in the budget most recently approved as of March 27, 2020
- were incurred during the period that begins on March 1, 2020 and end on December 30, 2020.
The Qagan Tayagungin Tribal Council met on July 28, 2020 to discuss a proposed budget for these funds. Appropriated during this council meeting, were the following:
- $1,020,000 - Expenses associated with the provision of economic support in connection with the COVID-19 public health emergency.
- The Tribe is working closely with their auditors and attorney to insure this portion of this budget is expended appropriately, and within the law.
- $500.00 - Non-contact forehead infrared thermometers to health screen employees at the beginning of each shift.
- $30,768 - Cleaning kits for all local households and fishing vessels to help promote sanitary conditions and reduce the spread of COVID-19.
- $17,000- Cleaning supplies for the Tribe to facilitate increased cleaning of public spaces and reduce the spread of COVID-19
- $3,117 - Wall mounted hand sanitizer dispensers for all doors entering Tribal buildings and office spaces to encourage hand sanitizing and reduce the spread of COVID-19.
- $1,000 - Training for staff in how to use automated external defibrillators purchased with Aid to Tribal Government funds.
- $1,000 - First Aid Training for Staff.
- $28,127 - Payroll expenses for the Executive Director, Finance Director, and Administrative Assistant to manage CARES Act program and funds as authorized by the Tribal Council.
