Opportunity for High School Students in the AEBSD
The Aleutians East Borough School District has announced an essay contest open to High School Students who would like an opportunity to attend the Alaska Association of School Board's Youth Leadership Institute November 7th through the 10th. This contest is open to students in Grades 9-12.
Essay Topic: Honoring the Past
Purpose of the trip to Anchorage:
Essay Question:
What do you think were 3 major challenges your ancestors faced? What do you think will be your 3 biggest challenges in your future? What has changed to cause the difference between your ancestors challenges and yours?
Entries will be judges on the students writing skills as well as the essay contents. Essays must be a minimum of 350 words to a maximum 1250 words in a minimum of 5 paragraphs. Deadline for submission: Friday, October 18, 2013 4:00PM. Submit to your School Principal. Two students will be selected.

- Participate in various hand-on activities
- Commit to using leadership skills in their communities
- Connect with emerging young leaders from across the state
- Join in conversations and sessions with school board members
