You may or may not be aware of the sea bird mortality events continuing along the coasts of Alaska, but recently there has been a significant increase. The die-off events are anticipated to continue throughout the winter; please refer any sick/dead bird reports or urgent bird matters to the USFWS at 1-866-527-3358 or report to the QTT Environmental Coordinator, Karis Porcincula, at (907)383-6968 or by email: QTTEnvironmental@arctic.net. Additionally, you can utilize the Wildlife Health & Disease Surveillance Program email: dfg.dwc.vet@alaska.gov which is primarily for mammal/game species health reports but we will forward bird mortality reports on any species on to the appropriate agency contacts.
